Moisture Festival Schedules Benefit Show For Hospitalized And Residential Veterans

The Moisture Festival is excited about the benefit show we will be doing at the VA's Puget Sound Health Care Facility located at American Lake in the South Tacoma area. The American Lake VA facility serves military veterans in the south sound area and is a vital link in providing health care to all Northwest veterans.

The Moisture Festival's goal will be to bring some entertainment and laughs to VA inpatients and staff at the American Lake facility. We wanted to have a benefit for veterans because producers Ron Bailey and Danny O'Brien felt it be a great way to give back to the community. O'Brien is a veteran himself and Bailey grew up as an Army brat. Both felt it would be a great idea if the Moisture Festival could do something to give back specifically to the members of the local veteran community.

O'Brien had also worked as a volunteer at the VA and through his contacts there approach staff and inquired about bringing a 'show' to veterans at the VA. American Lake seemed like the best fit for the event due to their inpatient population. The facility not only serves as a hospital for veterans but provides programs for the health and general well being of veterans including such things as the treatment for veterans suffering from PTSD.

The Moisture Festival traveling show will take place in the American Lake Community Living Center (CLS) activity room at American Lake at 2pm on Tuesday March 26th. The show will be open to hospitalize and residential veterans and staff only.

Run away with Moisture Festival: Volunteers Wanted!

It would be impossible to present an event like the Moisture Festival without the enormous army of volunteers who donate their time, energy, and love to create the festival, see that shows run smoothly, and ensure that the audience keeps coming back for more.

If you are interested in being a part of the festival, join us on Monday evening, February 4th to hear about the 2013 festival, learn about this year's volunteer positions, and meet the festival organizers. After the meeting, mingle with new and old volunteers, talk to our department leaders and sign up for teams.

Our volunteers have made it possible for us to celebrate 10 years of comedy/varietè at the Moisture Festival in 2013! Because of the enthusiastic people who have volunteered every year since 2004 we have presented a month long festival that has grown to 50 shows including over 200 performers and audiences of all ages reaching 12,000.

Our motto “Laughter is the key” emphasizes that our volunteer team’s main mission is to have fun while we work together. Each year we seek new volunteers to join our returning teams who take care of greeting patrons at the door, box office, artist accommodations, set building, data management  – to name only a few of the areas necessary for the continued success of this annual springtime festival.

We’d love to celebrate our 10 year milestone with you. We have a lot of fun together each and every night of the festival. Be a part of the amazing family that makes this unique event happen!
