Kenny Raskin Workshop Offered: 'Follow The Laugh'

Moisture Festival is ever so pleased that Kenny Raskin will be not only be performing at the festival, but will also offer a clowning and physical theater workshop, "Follow the Laugh" on April 5th.  (Limited to to only 20 students!)

For the past thirty five years, Kenny Raskin has made a name for himself as a leading physical comedian both in the United States and Europe, delighting audiences with a unique blend of theatrical pieces and clown characters.

He starred as the lead clown Everyman in Cirque du Soleil's universally loved NOUVELLE EXPERIENCE, and originated the role of Lefou, the comic sidekick of the villain Gaston, in the Broadway production of Disney's BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, among many other laudible credits.

This four hour workshop is designed for those who yearn to further their study of clown, or for those who just want to use these skills to enhance their acting chops. Some experience in acting or clown is desired.

Clowns live in a world of spontaneity, flexibility and distractibility. They follow their noses, and the rest of their senses as well. This workshop is designed to help you find that part of yourself that connects you to your physicality and your spontaneity, which will spark wonderfully creative ideas on stage.

In order to create the comedy, one must create surprise. To do that, one must surprise oneself . By working without thought, without ideas, but rather with direct contact with the environment and others, great, powerful and authentic moments are created. These are the hallmark of great clowning.

Former Cirque du Soleil Clown Kenny Raskin brings thirty five years of performing experience to teaching clown and physical comedy. He has served as an adjunct faculty member in the theatre departments at Brandeis University, Boston University, New York University, Emerson College and Emory University. For six years he taught private workshops in New York City. He continues to teach clowning and physical comedy workshops at actor training retreats and performance festivals, such as The New York Goofs Clowning Intensives, MotionFest East and West and with Artistic New Directions in New York City. He was also a faculty member at Ringling Brothers Clown College.

This one-day special event is limited to only 20 people, so purchase your tickets in advance.

Kenny Raskin is also performing in the Moisture Festival in April.  Check out his full festival schedule!
