Moisture Festival | A Visit To Art Zone

I had a fun visit with our friends over at the Seattle Channel, specifically "Art Zone with Nancy Guppy", shooting a segment about our 10th year of Moisture.  Nancy and her producer, Sheila Mullen, are so much fun.  The set they had put together for the interview consisted of a tower of donuts topped with birthday candles (to signify Moisture Fest's 10th birthday), 2 champagne glasses (so what if it was 9am) which all sat atop a mini, toy size, grand piano (see photo below - I so want one of those).  These gals have flare!  Here's the video!

Moisture Festival performers pull a little high jinx at The Neptune

Last Friday, our dear friends from Leftover Salmon played their first concert in Seattle in a very long time.  Many of the Moisture Festival performers and producers have a long history of trading pranks and shenanigans with this group of extraordinary musicians.  We simply couldn't pass up the opportunity to once again make a splash.  Members of one of our Moisture Festival bands, The Sancapators,  gathered to create a small marching band.  Thanks go to Heather Weihl for pulling that part together.   Moisture Festival producers, Katherine Bragdon and Rhonda Sable, led the band - Mardi Gras style - complete with costumes and parasols, up on to the stage in the middle of the first set.  The Cheshire Cat grin on the band members faces was our payoff.  The "boys" joined in, playing along with the marching band and we welcomed our friends back to Seattle - vaudeville style!  Then we spent the rest of the evening joyfully dancing and grooving to this incredible band.  Sooo much fun!!!

Burlesque Local Legends - March 25

Monday, March 25th, Moisture Festival will host a very special event brought to you in collaboration with Miss Indigo Blue's Academy of Burlesque and BurlyCon Burlesque Undressed: the Stories Behind the Glitter will offer an intimate evening with local burlesque luminaries sharing their personal stories.

Immerse yourself in this rich history told by the performers who danced in the Northwest in days gone by, as well as those who currently grace our Seattle stages.  Along with Paula the Swedish Housewife, Tamara the Trapeze Lady, Inga Ingenue, and Miss Indigo Blue, this special evening will feature Local Legends Velvet Ice and Eartha Quake.

Eartha Quake "9.9 on the Richter Scale, it wasn't San Andreas' Fault!" was born and raised in tremor capital San Francisco. Her first brush with striptease was as a cashier at the Follies on 16th & Mission.  An unsuccessful trip across the Canadian border landed her in Seattle, where friends talked her in to dancing. The next thing she knew, she was hooked!  She developed a classic style evocative of Gypsy Rose Lee, but her favorite act was a Reverse Strip and she often worked to Blues, Rock, and Big Band sounds.  She worked all over the West Coast from Los Angeles to Alaska, and danced with contemporaries Camile 2000, Sonia Lane, Velvet Ice, Viva La Fever, Baby Lulu, Baby Marie, Diamond Sapphire, Anita Mann, Phonda Peters, and Harlan Fairbanks.  She now lives north of Seattle with her wonderful extended family and her long haired Dachshund.

"The Sleaze with Ease, The Tower of Power, the Torrid Velvet Ice"
Velvet Ice was born at the old Follies in San Francisco, 1973 in to Rock & Roll Hippie Burlesque. She fell in love with the art form, learning from the greats who came through SF. Her biggest influences were Tori Lynn, Ellion Ness, Joi Jessard and Blaze Starr, to name a few. Her career has taken her to LA, Vegas, Micronesia, Canada, and Seattle. Her acts were heavily influenced by the music she loved, such as Jazz/Blues, 70s Funk, and Led Zeppelin! Velvet knew she was fulfilling her calling when told by a fan, “You make me want to go home and make love to my wife!”.

Dr. Patch Adams to Bring Humor & Health to Moisture Festival

"Humor & Health", Monday April 1st, 7:30pm
Dr. Patch Adams, one of today's most inspirational medical authorities and powerful medical social activists, will present "Humor & Health"at Moisture Festival April 1st at 7:30pm.  In this funny and inspirational lecture Patch discusses his 30+ years of clowning experience and looks at the relationship between humor and the health of the individual, community or society.

Patch is both a medical doctor and a clown, but he is also a social activist who has devoted 30 years to changing America's health care system, a system which he describes as expensive and elitist.  He believes that laughter, joy and creativity are an integral part of the healing process and therefore true health care must incorporate such life.

"Extraordinary! One man I can look up to and respect," "Incredibly mind blowing and memorable," and "Incredibly inspiring, amazing human being, invaluable to hear him first hand" are among the words heard from participants after experiencing Patch Adams, the real person behind the hit movie Patch Adams, starring Robin Williams.

While it may be  April Fools Day, we'll have the real Patch on the Palladium stage - no joke!
