We Need Your Business to Join the Fun in 2014!

The 2014 festival is coming, March 20th to April 13th, and we're lining up business sponsorships to help make the 11th festival a great beginning to a new decade of comedy/varieté and burlesque magic.

This season we are happy to announce a new partnership with The Stranger, Seattle's #1 weekly newspaper.  This partnership will mean greater exposure for the Moisture Festival and its sponsors. In addition to the great benefits our sponsors have always enjoyed, we will print the festival program, featuring announcements from our sponsors, as a center spread in the March 12th issue of The Stranger, circulated to more than 75,000 readers.  Sponsors who offer support of $2000 or more will also have announcements viewed by tens of thousands on thestranger.com.  All of this on top of getting your business out in front of more than 13,000 patrons who attend the festival each year and receiving plenty of festival tickets for you, your employees and your customers!

For more information, check out our 2014 Sponsorship Packages!

Don't hesitate to contact us with questions about theses packages or to discuss a custom package that works for your business.  Businesses who pledge their sponsorship before December 24th will additionally be represented in our New Year's Eve Extravaganza!

More information regarding our fundraising and operations can be found in our 2013 Annual Report.

Last but certainly not least, we want to express our gratitude to all past, current, and future sponsors.  We truly couldn't do it without you!

Moisture Festival Benefit Show for the Experimental Education Unit

November 17th, Moisture Festival hosted a special benefit show for the kids and families of the Experimental Education Unit (EEU).  "The goal of the classroom programs at the Experimental Education Unit is to provide a positive educational experience to children with diverse abilities in a setting that enhances the strengths and supports the needs of all the children in our program."

Moisture Festival created a unique matinee variete show for the families of EEU students while James Schmidt of Pecado Bueno provided underwriting support and a scrumptious taco bar that made kids of all ages happy.

All admissions proceeds from the event benefited the EEU. Through ticket sales and donations, this special event raised over $2400 for the EEU.

A huge shout-out and thank you to James and Pecado Bueno for underwriting this fantastic event, and a very happy holiday to our friends at the EEU and all the kids and families they help.

"Blurred Lines" and "The Gospel of The Gutter Queen"

Moisture artists are making headlines with a parody of the controversial Robin Thicke "Blurred Lines" music video.  Mod Carousel, a local boylesque troupe of The Luminous Pariah, Paris Original, and Trojan Original with Caela Bailey, Sydni Devereux, and Dalisha Phillips, blur the lines of the original creating their own gender swapped take of the video that's going viral on YouTube and making headlines (Huffington Post, Jezebel, Slate) across the country.

Mod Carousel elaborates: "It's our opinion that most attempts to show female objectification in the media by swapping the genders serve more to ridicule the male body than to highlight the extent to which women get objectified and do everyone a disservice. We made this video specifically to show a spectrum of sexuality as well as present both women and men in a positive light, one where objectifying men is more than alright and where women can be strong and sexy without negative repercussions."

Caela Baily has been busy.  Along with the winning "Blurred Lines" project Caela has been working on a project to launch her first album "The Gospel of The Gutter Queen".

"This project is a lifetime in the making. The songs we are recording have been the sound track that has been created through all of our adventures."

How We Spend Our Summer Vacation: Oregon Country Fair

The seeds for the Moisture Festival were planted at the Oregon Country Fair, a three day gathering in the woods outside Veneta, Oregon. Oregon Country Fair has a rich and varied history of alternative arts and performance promotion, educational opportunities, land stewardship and philanthropy.  The fair community rises out of the Long Tom River marsh once year to bring together thousands of of performers, artists, volunteers, vendors and crafters to create "events and experiences that nourish the spirit, explore living artfully and authentically on Earth, and transform culture in magical, joyous and healthy ways".

The Oregon Country Fair is a phenomenon for many reasons. It has been regarded as a Vaudeville Mecca since it was created in 1969. Variety artists have been a cornerstone of the fair’s entertainment, performing for the fair audience then hanging out together late into the night when dreams are born. It was at the Oregon Country Fair that Maque daVis and Ron W. Bailey first dreamed of bringing some of the fair’s fabulous entertainment to Seattle. The dream would unfold to include Tom Noddy and his bubble magic, Hacki Ginda, the DuCaniveaux troupe, Tim Furst aka Fyodor Karamazov, The Fremont Players, Henrik Bothe, UMO and many others who make up the vaudeville community at the fair.

The Fair continues to nourish and inspire the artists that bring their unique magic to Seattle's Moisture Festival ever springtime.  All of them would recommend a fabulous summer vacation plan for a trip south to Oregon, then west from Eugene to this wonderful one weekend a year gathering.

KING5 Evening Magazine Does Feature On Godfrey Daniels

Our beloved Moisture Festival clown/puppet and 'face of the festival' Godfrey Daniels has been 'working his mute magic' on the KING5 Evening Magazine crew and he's working them like, 'he works an eight year old at a Saturday matinée'. He even got them asking rhetorical questions like, "is he a clown or a puppet, your decide"?. Something the festival producers and people attending Moisture Festival have been asking themselves for years. The real question we think should be,  is he a clown or a puppet with the power to control people's minds with those red balloons, and what in that big tank he got hidden in the dressing room?

The creator of 'Godfrey', Randy Minkler (who also spends his time putting together most of the Mositure Festival's variete' show line-ups) even came out of the puppet clown closet to reveal his real identity to the world in the TV segment. The rumor is it's because he's had a big crush on Jean Enersen for years and loves her in those 'KING 5 health-link' reports. Thank you KING5 Evening Magazine for finally exposing Godfrey's clown puppet 'pinko red ball child and adult mind control' gimmick for the whole world to see.

You can see Godfrey Daniels in the following Moisture Festival Shows at Hale's Palladium:

Welcome To Moisture Festival 2013!

Burlesque Host Madame X

Welcome to our 10th annual Moisture Festival – a celebration of comedy/varietè and burlesque.

Over the last nine years we have showcased over 1500 performers in 314 shows in eight different venues around Seattle. We had the pleasure of entertaining over 63,000 of you - our patrons. We also produced over a dozen benefit shows for many worthy community organizations.

Thank you for joining us as we celebrate this achievement. Much of the credit goes to you and all the other audience members who have made the festival performers feel at home and very much appreciated. This is the reason the best variety performers in the world are stopping by to be part of our shows!

We offer our eternal gratitude to the festival volunteers who have done so much to help us reach this 10-year milestone. The work they accomplish is phenomenal. Their dedication is inspiring. Together we have heavily invested in laughing stock and the returns just get better and better. While it is sometimes difficult to put a value on joy, laughter and amazement we are fortunate to have gathered sponsors and individual donors who understand the benefits. Seattle is a culturally rich city and we are proud to continue to be part of a community that supports the variety arts and art of all sizes and shapes.

We hope you will immerse yourselves in the many types of variety shows at Hale’s Palladium, come visit us on Capitol Hill at the Broadway Performance Hall for an adult evening of burlesque or a Sunday varietè matinée with the whole family. For a very unique festival evening, join us in lower Queen Anne at SIFF Cinema for our yearly collaboration with our pals at SIFF, presenting short silent films sprinkled with live varietè performances. To push our celebration to the limit, we will be presenting two very special events at Hale’s Palladium, held on Monday nights. On March 25, Miss Indigo Blue hosts an array of burlesque lovelies discussing this art forms unique and intriguing history and on April 1 the real Dr. Patch Adams will speak on humor and health.

The Moisture Festival has always understood the importance of giving back to the community that has given support to us over the years. During the first week of the festival we will be presenting two benefit matinées. Beneficiaries this year are 'Hands for a Bridge' (March 23) and 'Phinney Neighborhood Association' (March 24). In addition, we are taking a few performers on the road to entertain our veterans at the American Lake VA facility in South Tacoma.

It’s a thrill to report that the enthusiasm that launched our first festival in 2004 is very much alive and still providing the fuel for this 10-year celebration. Thank you for doing your part. Now let’s have some fun together at the 10th Annual Moisture Festival.
